This french onion ground beef and rice skillet is a one-pan wonder that comes together quickly and pleases a lot of tastes. If you’re tired of just your basic “chicken and rice” dish, give this skillet meal a try. It’s a creamy, flavorful comfort food that makes an easy weeknight meal for the family. Don’t forget the crispy onions! They really take it over the top!

French Onion Ground Beef & Rice Skillet

Ingredients

  • 1 lb 1 ground beef

  • 1 can 1 French onion soup

  • 1 can 1 beef consomme

  • 2 cups 2 white rice

  • 1 tbsp 1 Worcestershire

  • 2 1/2 cups 2 1/2 water

  • 1 cup 1 French onion dip (8oz)

  • 1 1/2 cups 1 1/2 gruyere, shredded *

  • 1 pkg 1 crispy fried onions

Directions

  • In a large pan or skillet, brown the ground beef until cooked through.
  • Stir rice into skillet with ground beef and allow to saute in the rendered fat for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add soup, consomme, and water to the skillet and bring to a low boil.
  • Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 10 minutes
  • Remove from heat, but keep covered for an additional 10 minutes until rice is finished cooking/steaming.
  • Stir in french onion dip, and top with shredded cheese. Cover again for 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted.
  • Top with crispy fired onions before serving.

Notes

  • *For a more cost-effective substitute, try swiss or gouda cheese in place of gruyere.
